Diego Schwartzman Begins Farewell at Rosario Challenger

Argentinian tennis player Diego "Peque" Schwartzman will begin his farewell to tennis this week at the Challenger in Rosario, his penultimate tournament as a professional. Schwartzman, 32, will face his compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli in a match full of emotion for the best Argentine player of recent years. Schwartzman has had notable achievements such as reaching the semifinals of Roland Garros, the final of the Rome Masters 1000, and being ranked number 8 in the world in 2020, in addition to winning four ATP titles.

The Challenger in Rosario will start with first-round matches and features several Argentinians in competition, including Sebastián Báez, ranked number 31 in the world. Schwartzman will face Ugo Carabelli, the tournament's sixth seed, in a match expected to be complex. The "Peque" hadn't played since the US Open in August, where he lost in his first match against Gael Monfils after advancing through the qualifying rounds.

After the Challenger in Rosario, Schwartzman will officially say goodbye at the Argentina Open, an event he won in 2021 to end 13 years without local champions. The tennis player announced his decision to retire last May, after seasons with disappointing results. The match between Schwartzman and Ugo Carabelli, one of Schwartzman's last as a professional, is scheduled for this Tuesday, although the time has yet to be defined.
